Our first trip to Flanders and the Somme has returned having experienced more of the travails of the soldier's life than was expected! The weather was bitterly cold and the return voyage a test of the most hardened traveller. But we made it and a great time was had by all.
Pictures of the trip are now on the website and comments will be added shortly. The detailed itinerary will also be added. A big thanks to everyone who took part - and we look forward to the next one!
Our base in Belgium is the excellent Varlet Farm. You can check it out simply by Googling it. The owners, Charlotte and Dirk, have created a down home atmosphere and a quality of service which makes staying there a treat of the highest order. Not only is the accommodation first-class but breakfast provides enough food to create a packed lunch each day and allow you to pack in even more sights!
They also have a museum on the farm which grows each year and provides an insight not only to the war but the effect it still has on farmers today.
On March 20th 2008 our first trip sets off to France and Belgium.
March 20th sees the first tour of our new venture set off from Rosyth on the Superfast Ferry to Zeebrugge with 12 excited explorers aboard.
We will be staying at Varlet Farm near Poelkapelle for the 3 nights and taking in a challenging array of sites from Diksmuide to Thiepval over the four days of our stay.
